Twin-Control aims to develop a simulation system that integrates the different aspects that affect machine tool and machining performance, including lifecycle concepts, providing better estimation of machining performance than single featured simulation packages. This holistic simulation model will be linked to the real machines in order to update itself according to their real condition and to perform control actions that will lead to performance improvements.

This project was active for three years, September 2015-2018.

The Twin-Control consortium visits the Renault plant in Cleon

The 25th and 26th of January the project consortium met in the Renault plant in Cleon (North of France) to work on the definition of the Twin-Control architecture and lay the foundations for the technical work to be developed in the project. The issues were discussed at great length and important progresses were achieved.

The consortium of the European project received a warm welcome from the Renault team, led by Marc Frabolot, and took advantage of the meeting to visit some machining and assembly lines of different Renault’s Diesel engines.

In addition, the partners had the chance to witness first-hand the process lines to be used in 2018 for the Twin-Control industrial demonstration.

The next consortium meeting is scheduled for the 13th and the 14th of April in Brussels.

The European project Twin-Control will reinvent machine tool simulation

Eleven European partners coordinated by IK4-TEKNIKER technology centre will design a new concept for machine tool and machining process simulation. The project – called Twin-Control – will last for 36 months, has a total budget of 5.6 million euros and it is funded by the Public Private Partnership (PPP) for Factories Of the Future (FOF) within the European Framework Programme for Research and Innovation, Horizon 2020 (grant agreement nº 680725).
